Simple ways to boost BDNF in your body through easy to find food
The standard American diet, which is high in sugar, bad fats, processed foods, and high fructose corn syrup has been shown to lower BDNF.
Low levels of BDNF have been associated with everything from depression to Alzheimer’s.
For optimal brain function, we have to eat the right foods to increase BDNF levels.
In this quick article, I’m going to layout the 3 types of food you should add to your diet if you want to maintain high BDNF levels.
1. Berries
Berries such as blueberries, raspberries, bilberries, acai berries, and blackberries.
Recent clinical research has demonstrated that berry fruits can prevent age-related neurodegenerative diseases and improve motor and cognitive functions.
In fact, a 2006 study from Vanderbilt University found that drinking fruit and vegetable juices more than three times a week cut the risk of developing Alzheimer’s by 76%.
The fact is that if you’re not consuming a large number of berries on a daily basis you’re missing out on one of the most powerful BDNF boosting and brain-protecting superfoods.
2. Turmeric
Turmeric has also been found to boost BDNF levels in the blood while supporting healthy brain cell rejuvenation, cognitive function, and mental and emotional health.
Curcumin, the active ingredient in Turmeric, is shown to have strong anti-inflammatory properties. And reducing inflammation is one of the most reliable ways to increase levels of BDNF.
