So many of us are getting weighed down by the need to be more productive, and as such, we’re constantly trying to juggle tasks and todos and everything that’s going on in our lives. This is just too much to ask of a single mind, and it’s one of the most common reasons we’re offloading many of these things to external devices life iPhones. It’s also one of the big reasons why our minds are going haywire, and why so many people are saying we should strive to keep ourselves more in the moment.
Trying to manage complex life circumstance leads to the mind looking ahead and trying to plan everything constantly, to make room for all that we want to achieve. But this has the result of causing us to forget about what’s going on right in front of us, at this moment. While that can be a problem, being totally present os not the solution, because while this wandering mind can be uncomfortable or even stressful, it provides us with important functions that we couldn’t properly live without. The Huffington Post has more:
Living for the moment is the reason people leave marriages, lose control over their health, and why America is trillions of dollars in debt.
Instead of living for the moment, it is better to live for the past — as you’d prefer toremember that moment, and your life in general. Indeed, time is fleeting. The present moment barely exists. The moment you become conscious of it, it’s over.
As strange as it may sound, our memories of our experiences are more important than the experiences themselves.
Perhaps we shouldn’t see the past, present and future as distinct, instead they are a continuum, and to maximize our health and happiness, we need to use all of them, as together they make up our lives. Check out the full post for more.
