The Human Genome Project started around 1984, since then there’s been a long and complicated journey towards understanding how it works and fits together. Perhaps it’s been a lot more difficult than many would have expected, but at the same time, there have also been some great discoveries, and our understanding of ourselves has grown as such.
One new piece of science coming out claims to have found the genes that are linked to us living long and healthy lives. This could be an amazing breakthrough. Consider that there’s more and more gene editing projects popping up, some that are inexpensive and readily available, meaning we could all have the equipment needed to alter our longevity. Newsmax has more:
Swiss scientists have identified a handful of new genes, out of a “haystack” of 40,000, that appear to be linked with longer, healthier lives.
The results of the study indicated that 30 genes significantly influence the aging process.
Ristow said the aim of the work is not necessarily to extend human life expectancy but to identify ways to slow the aging process so people can live healthier lives.
There is still plenty of work to be done in understanding how this all works before we get to the personal editing ideas. But for now the progress is positive and exciting. Check out the full post for more.
