Science is providing a lot of information related to how to keep our bodies healthy, but the brain is still relatively in the dark. The mass of neuronal tissue uses 20 percent of the bodies energy, yet we still lack the insight into how it works to really know how to keep it healthy and functioning properly.

The fact that Alzheimer’s and other mental disorders are common and for the most part untreatable is a signal of this. Nevertheless, new science is constantly coming out, and it’ll only be a matter of time before we start to unlock the brain’s secrets. For now, we have to settle for what’s already been shown to work, one of these such effective pomegranate, the Asian fruit seems to help the health of our neurons:

The latest study from the American Chemical Society has revealed that this Asian fruit with small translucent red seeds could play an important role in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers highlighted the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective action of compounds called urolithins.

The researchers observed in vitro that these urolithins lowered the levels of the ß-amyloid protein which is responsible for the formation of toxic clumps between neurons that is associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

IT’s not the most common fruit around, but maybe there should be a little more of it. Check out the full post to learn more about the cognitive benefits of pomegranate.
