Not many people are going to complain about having more sex, so if science is going to point out more health benefits of doing so, I’d expect an enthusiastic response. This just happens to be the case, as sex appears to have a very welcoming effect on cognitive functioning.

Generally, when we think of improving our mental capacities, we think of exercise, diet, or perhaps learning something new. It turns out that sex can be added to that list, and even better, the results comes from participants between 50 and 89 years old. The study looked at nearly 7,000 individuals from the UK, the Huffington Post has more:

Men’s performance on number sequencing and word recall tests seemed to be linked to their level of sexual activity. Women were a little different. For them, the link was only seen with word recall.

“It is possible that our results may be related to hormones which affect the brain – and hence cognitive functions – in men and women differently, at a subconscious level,” co-author Hayley Wright of Coventry University told Reuters Health.

With all of the science coming out, it’s becoming very apparent that a healthy body and brain can be obtained through exercise, the right diet, and now, plenty of sex. Of course, one of those is more enjoyable than the others, so if willpower is a problem, this might be great news for you. Check out the full post for more.
