Axing Additives: A Healthy Start

Look on the back of any packaged food product in your local supermarket, and see how many of the “ingredients” you can identify. I wish you luck. Chances are there will be an abundance of weird foreign sounding chemicals in there, things you know absolutely nothing about, and yet so many of us feel comfortable consuming them.

At least, we’ve consumed them in the past, but that might be changing. People are getting smarter — most people. With the internet at our finger tips we can access answers to every fleeting question in moments. And people are doing just that. An article on the Huffington Post is pointing out that companies have started to realize that the public are’t going along with their deception any longer:

Something interesting is happening in the food industry. Panera, Subway, and Taco Bell have all promised to get rid of artificial ingredients including colorings and flavorings from some or all of their foods. Nestlé (at least for its few chocolate candies) and Kraft (for its mac and cheese) have said the same.

… lately, people have begun to ridicule additive-packed foods, especially online. And some companies have discovered that dropping additives gives them something to brag about.

It’ll be a wonderful day when you can pop in to the store and pick something up off the shelves, unconcerned about what’s in it, and feeling secure in there being no harm to your health. That day might seem distant, but it starts with people becoming aware of what’s currently wrong, and making some noise so that the companies notice. Check out the full post for all the details.
