Is Testosterone the Fountain of Youth?

Each body is different, and one of the biggest differences is in how much testosterone each body produces. There is a massive gap between men and women, but even within men there is a great deal of variation. Some of us are naturally muscular and big, others are thin and have to work extremely hard to gain muscle.

Given these differences—and in particular their effect on sports, it’s no wonder people seek to boost themselves by increasing the amount of testosterone in their bodies. While there are risks, the science around it has been both positive and negative, making it unlikely we’ll get a simple right or wrong answer regarding its use. New science, however, is pointing towards a possible link between testosterone and anti-aging:

“For the last 50 years, doctors have known about the promise of testosterone, but it was frowned upon because of the possible risks. But now evidence is growing that this hormone could indeed be a fountain of youth for older men,” Dr. Chauncey Crandall tells Newsmax Health.

This latest study, from the Medical Center Heart Institute in Salt Lake City, finds that men with heart disease who were not on testosterone therapy had an 80 percent higher risk of suffering heart attack, stroke, or death.

“Also, testosterone leads to increased muscle mass, lack of depression, increased well-being, and an increased sexual life, so if you add these all up, they are going to contribute to a drastically reduced heart disease risk.”

Science is starting to lean in favor of testosterone supplementation, it’s going to be interesting watching how this develops in the future. Check out the full post for more details on the current study.
